ST. ALBERT—STARFest Readers Festival
Is thrilled to announce its festival line-up for 2024, featuring an exciting range of authors whose new books offer something for book lovers of all reading interests.
"We have another fantastic lineup for the festival – six incredible authors across six events October 17- 28," says Festival Director Julie Ruel. "STARFest audiences are made up of avid readers who will be delighted to see some of their festival favourites return with new books, and to discover some amazing new voices, too."
The event will also be an opportunity for audiences to meet the new STARFest Director and Programs Librarian, Julie Ruel. "I’m excited to take on the STARFest role and bring exciting authors to St. Albert readers," says Ruel.
Festival Highlights:
- 2023 Scotiabank Giller Prize Finalist Kevin Chong with his novel The Double Life of Benson Yu, in conversation with David Berry (October 17).
- Three-time Governor’s-General Award winner Guy Vanderhaeghe with his new collection of nonfiction, Because Somebody Asked Me To, in conversation with Senator Paula Simons (October 18).
- Giller Prize winner Elizabeth Hay with her novel Snow Road Station, in conversation with regional Writer in Residence Katie Bickell (October 20).
- Up and coming author Rose Sutherland's debut novel A Sweet Sting of Salt; a reimagining of the folktale of The Selkie Wife, as a queer historical fantasy set in early 19th century Nova Scotia. Sutherland is joined by Diana Davidson (October 24).
- Northern Lit and Trillium Book Award finalist Claudia Dey with her novel Daughter, in conversation with Jana Pruden (October 26).
- The Giller Prize-longlisted author of Avenue of Champions, Conor Kerr, with his novel Prairie Edge, in conversation with Jordan Abel (October 28).
