2019 STARFest Director's Message
Pasts and futures. In my first year as director of STARFest, it is fitting that our line-up reflects not only the strong foundation laid by my predecessor, Heather Dolman, but also points to new partnerships and initiatives.
Jean Teillet and Linden MacIntyre look back on Canadian history, while Abu Bakr al Rabeeah and Winnie Yeung look at making Canada a home for the future. There is something for all tastes: Anne Hui looks at Chinese restaurants, while Emma Donoghue, Joy Fielding, and Amy Jones have us laughing and crying on the edges of our seats with stories of friendship and loss.
This year, we have engaged in a new partnership with Athabasca University to bring Katherena Vermette to STARFest. We also partner with the Book Publishers Association of Alberta and the Government of Alberta Public Libraries Branch to showcase local publishers and the first-of-its-kind Indigenous authors eBook collection, and we have invited OutLoud St. Albert to be part of the conversation with Brian Francis.
This year’s hosts are Jacqueline Baker, Marty Chan, Diana Davidson, Ken Davis, Marcello Di Cintio, Leslie Greentree, Celina Loyer, Janice MacDonald, Paula Simons, Mia Soetaert & Terry Soetaert, Richard Van Camp, Laurel Vespi, and Stephen Womack.
